Welcome to PREP Athletics

Our goal is to help high school basketball players find the right fitting prep school. A traditional high school might not be the best option for players wanting to play in college. The first reason for this is that some high school coaches don’t have the time or experience to help their players with the college recruiting process. Also, there are multiple AAU teams in each area that may or may not have these college connections. Prep schools, by contrast, offer opportunities for better competition, academics, exposure, and overall emotional and physical maturity. In short, prep schools are built to help get players better prepared and exposed to schools at the college level.

High School Prep

There are two options for prep school. The first is to attend one of these schools instead of a traditional high school. A majority of these schools house the students in dorms with some using host families. There are opportunities for international and domestic players to find a prep school that will challenge them on the court and in the classroom, more than they would receive in their current situation.

Post-Grad Prep

The second option is for players who want to stay at their current school until graduation, but need an extra year of college exposure, academic and/or athletic development. For the right family, who finds themselves in this situation, participating in a post-grad year at a prep school is an excellent option. This additional year does not count against NCAA eligibility like junior colleges do. This is a chance to play an extra summer of AAU, as well as attend NCAA certified and college elite camps. The player will also get the benefit of playing under a qualified prep school coach and in a competitive league. The opportunity to retake a class, improve standardized test scores, and even take college classes are some of the academic benefits of this additional year.

The Right Fit

There are currently over one hundred prep schools and basketball academies across the country with more starting up each year. Finding the right fitting school either by an internet search or from a family friend can be next to impossible. Each school has its own culture and traits that make the right fit vital for a successful and fulfilling placement. Based on my experience, I can look at a player’s academics, playing ability, and finances to determine the right schools to reach out to. Certain players thrive at high academic schools while others want the experience of a military school. Some players just want to focus on basketball and less on academics. I can help families determine which type of school is the right fit for them.
